Many thanks to Àine Martin from Hotel Doolin who gave our students an inspiring presentation. The Staff and Management of Hotel Doolin are committed to reducing water, energy and waste as well as purchasing locally. Its three P’s are People, Planet and Profit and our aims are to Reduce, Re-use & Recycle! The Green Hospitality Programme aims to reduce the carbon footprint of the hotel. Hotel Doolin is Ireland’s only certified carbon neutral hotel.
In a bid to do better for its guests, community and local environment, the hotel staff founded a Green Team in 2012. The team established three main aims:
- To reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint
- To review and improve its involvement with the community
- To increase the hotel’s social responsibility
“Community and people are a key part of our culture here in Hotel Doolin and protecting the stunning environment where we’re so lucky to work and live in is a key part of our ethos”,
explains Áine Martin, the Green Team Leader, and the hotel’s HR and Purchasing Manager.
Thanks to Susan Rossney, Education Manager at Chartered Accountants Ireland for explaining the growing importance of sustainability in the accounting profession. Chartered Accountants Ireland is working on embedding sustainability throughout our activities. Its Strategy24 reflects our ambition to build a more sustainable profession and institute in all aspects of its work. The Institute was one of 14 accounting bodies worldwide to become signatories to a call to action on climate change issued by A4S in February 2020. In 2020, Chartered Accountants Ireland launched its Sustainability Hub with information, guidance, and supports to help members understand sustainability and meet the challenges it presents.
